While I would be attributed much to my like for movies through my movie reviews and "Movies of the Year" and "Filipino Movies of the Year" lists, I also have been listing my 10 favorite music videos for each year of the past 9 years (except 2014) with due credit to a music videos' sound and visual. A good music video would comprise of touching and sentimental lyrics, catchy and earworm tune and an aesthetically pleasing, astounding and innovative video. This year's list has been a product of very difficult selection yet also, love.
Changes would be applied to my methodology for this year. Each music video in this list was selected based on its entirety not anymore by scoring separately for its music and its video. The rule of disqualifying music videos having less than 100,000,000 views on YouTube has also been removed to accommodate good ones which might not have reached the specified mark. Basically, every music video I would selected for this year's list has been on my own preference.

JR's MUSIC VIDEOS OF THE YEAR - 2018 METHODOLOGY:
- For a music and its corresponding music video to qualify on the list, the music must be dominating airwaves within the year, a favorite earworm amongst all, and its video must be aesthetically beautiful and innovative.
- Songs which doesn't have their corresponding music video, however, are disqualified in the selection process. Even lyric videos are not allowed to be in the list.
- In order to qualify as a 2018 music video, the music videos in the list must have been released worldwide on YouTube between 01 January 2018 to 31 December 2018 and must be available for viewing in the Philippines. No local entries, however, are qualified.
- All YouTube views in the list were as of 13 January 2018 (5PM). All numbers have been rounded up to the nearest millions (to accommodate possible view increase within the day of blog release).

"Right now, I'm in a state of mind
I wanna be in like all the time"
The past year has got to be definitely Ariana Grande's year. She made amazing songs and music videos that are worth the watch and hear. The question is, which one would be the best? For me, though, it just have to be "No Tears Left To Cry." It has to be the better bet even against her recent outing, "Thank U, Next." The choreography and editing of this music video just have to amaze you especially when you would learn how scenes involving Ariana twisting, moving and hanging were made. The artistry and attention to detail in this music video was also astounding. I commend most especially the one with the revolving hallway and the windows still showing the skyscraper backdrop, it's both beautiful and simply, jaw-dropping. Else, still jaw-dropping. It just shock me that she didn't win the Video of the Year and even the Artist of the Year from 2018's MTV Video Music Awards. Sorry, but for me Camila's win is underwhelming and undeserving even the video is not list worthy to be Music Video of the Year. So, I have to give it to Ariana for making one of the best music videos of the past year, hell, maybe even this decade. It's the feel good song (and video) I need the past year.
This is the 3RD entry of Ariana Grande in JR's Music Videos of the Year list.
Ariana Grande's last entry was "Breathin'" (#10, 2018)

"Feeling so high but too far away to hold me
You know I'm the one who put you up there"
Who knew a song about toxic relationships would come to relatable and too close to heart. This song by Halsey tackles just that with visuals that exactly represents what it's all about. Last time I saw a music video like this was 2011 in a song and music video by Rihanna called "We Found Love." Almost the same concept but still it has it's own identity. Acted wonderfully by Halsey herself, the music video appeared to be Hollywood-like to me using old textures but also with that modern vibe. The ending was too good revenge for what really could have been a disastrous connection. Not a good idea, by the way, to connect with someone broken when in the end you'll be ending broken too.
This is the 3RD entry of Halsey in JR's Music Videos of the Year list.
Halsey's last entry was "Closer" (#1, 2016) and "Eastside" (#7, 2018).

"Bitch, I'm a cow"
Bitch, I'm a cow, they say, and the rest was history. This video made virality last year just to how mediocre the music and video seems but was actually brilliant and well thought of. Memes have earned it's daily spot on our social media feeds that Doja Cat took advantage of that to bring a fun experience that you can't just unsee. The first time I watched the video, and I have to be honest, I didn't really liked it and it actually disturbed me a bit. But I would soon get hooked to it that the video and song has been played too many times on my YouTube and phone. I don't know what this song and it's video has but that my friend is genius.
This is the debut entry of Doja Cat in JR's Music Videos of the Year list.

"Then you show me, now I believe
Diamonds and dreams come true for girls like me"
This song too I got really hooked last year but I have to say how this video was directed, the angles including it's different set pieces, are just worth the list for me. Azealia Banks dancing to her song with orgasmic breasts are enough for me to move along too.

Another great year for music it was. This marks the 8th time JR would release his Music Videos of the Year list alongside with his Movies of the Year and most recently, Filipino Movies of the Year. Once again, let's anticipate what's next for music this 2019.
