"Let Greendale Cast A Spell On You"

Welcome to Greendale, a town of grim and horror plagued with history of witches, the very town that Sabrina Spellman gets to decide whether she fully embraces her dark witch side or sacrifice it for a healthy mortal life with her friends and boyfriend. With an adventure really worth binge-watching, "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" is a worthy addition to your Netflix watchlist but with a heavy warning for its very disturbing content.

While I lived to watch and enjoy the 1990s comedic predecessor on an old tube TV, the 2018 version exceeds the former by a huge margin by just how willing it is to embrace a tone only horror movies can adhere, a rare feat in fact for TV series. The show is well equipped with a cast that fully embodied the characters that are in the series. Aunt Hilda, Aunt Zelda, Ambrose, Harvey, Prudence, Nicholas and Kiernan as Sabrina are just a few that you'll love in the series. Each episode is catered with a dilemma only Sabrina could face and these are what you'll have to anticipate all the way. With all the good mentioned, The series is full of satanic symbolism that might make you uncomfortable along the experience. I, for one, felt sinning upon watching the series; so, I advise you to watch at your own risk. Unlike Riverdale, where despite all the darkness that builds the town you can have high hopes on, Greendale is just full of darkness that there is just pure evil to rely on. So be warned!

"Purely and Simply... Evil"

An epitome of greatness when it comes to the horror genre, "Halloween" established the rules, the cliches we now know of in slasher or serial murderer flicks. It really is one of the most innovative and best horror movies ever made. On the eve of Halloween 1978, the world gave witness to the murder spree of Michael Myers in the town of Haddonfield, Illinois after his successful escape from a mental institution he was held captive for 15 years. Years earlier his captivity he killed his own sister at their own home with a kitchen knife; now he returns as an unstoppable force without any reason, without any purpose. While Michael Myers survives and escapes from all that transpired on the eve of Halloween 1978, he took failure on killing just one, Laurie Strode. The blend of Carpenter's score, the monster that is Michael, the creepy vibe of Haddonfield coupled with excellent acting by Jamie Lee Curtis, John Carpenter successfully gave us one of the most innovative and scariest films ever made. The attention to detail with every set and prop used and line spoke in the film was meticulous. The simplicity of Michael's story made everything pristine and spot-free other than being logical and realistic. Would not have been for "Halloween," we would not have our deepest of admiration for serial killers and masked murderers that came after Michael in film. "Halloween" is the very standard how we should rate and critique horror / slasher films in general.

"The Hunted Becomes The Hunter"

There's a reason why the "Halloween" of 1978, our first glimpse at Michael Myers, remains a masterpiece in its genre. It's the very reason why we love masked serial killers in film. "Halloween" of 2018 comes close to the grandeur of the first movie paying homage to the original by continuing the story of Michael vs Laurie and by incorporating details that are subtle references to the first movie. In this year's "Halloween", the entire slate is clean neglecting all the 9 movies that came after the 1978 classic in an attempt to know if Michael is indeed an immortal boogeyman or Michael can be killed by the same being he haunted years back, Laurie Strode, in a case of the hunted becoming the hunter. When "Halloween" of 1978 pits Michael Myers as the monster, the "Halloween" of 2018 creates the unstoppable force that is Laurie Strode. The question now is whether Laurie would prove to be successful or not. The iconic score, clean and strategic kills and attention to detail, the reasons why we loved the original Halloween is the same reason you'll like this year's Halloween.
