KITA KITA
JR's Rating:  (9.5 out of 10, Excellent)
"Kung Kailan Ka Bulag, Doon Mo Ako Nakita"

POSITIVES
➕ Alessandra De Rossi & Empoy
➕ Scenic Japan
➕ "One... Two... Three..."
➕ Ramen Scene
➕ Very Tragic Ending
NEGATIVES

Kita Kita is an elegy to a very optimistic love story that truly feels genuine and unique from your typical Filipino romantic comedy. Kita Kita brings romance with a twist all in a tragic ending. The movie brings us to the Japanese town of Sapporo where Lea, a Filipino worker, strives as a tourist guide while struggling in a failed engagement bid with a Japanese locale. In a shocking twist, Lea is diagnosed with temporary blindness thereby changing her from an optimist to a pessimist; that, however, doesn't take long as Tonyo enters the scene. Lea and Tonyo's love story ensues with Tonyo courting Lea (in a comedic yet effective manner) until ultimately Lea earns back her sense of sight and sees the death of her love. Kita Kita brings those random kilig and sadness that is not corny but rather quotable and likeable. I personally loved the pairing of Alessandra De Rossi and Empoy Marquez, both of which did insanely good. Never expected it from them, to be honest. One scene in particular, gave me those kilig, when Tonyo told Lea an unconventional “I Love You” while they were eating Ramen. The movie is a happy treat until you get to see the tragic ending. The tragedy continues with an enumeration of how things started which was really effective; a perfect example of a flashback method of story-telling. A movie with those "feels", Kita Kita offers hope to the Filipino romantic comedy which typically is a genre of over-used celebrity couples and rushed stories. Sobrang galing na ika'y mabibitin. You’ll definitely count one to ten differently after you see this film.

"An Addicting Game to Annoy Your Friends..."

POSITIVES
➕ Pink Fluffy Boss
➕ Timed Boss Challenges
➕ Unique Fairy Bonuses
➕ Diverse Dragons
NEGATIVES
➖ Annoying Friend Invites
➖ Frequent Lags
➖ Very Little Objectives

A faster, modern yet truly annoying Space Invaders playable on your Facebook Messenger... Everwing is the newest game that people are hooked up to. In Everwing, you get to play a fairy with two dragon sidekicks defeating every enemy in line that are set to block your path. At the end of several intervals of enemies, you get to defeat different bosses of varying attacks (though as of this moment, there are only 5 bosses in the game so far, my favorite being the Pink Fluffy One). As good as the gameplay mechanic sounds, the game seems to have the only objective of getting the highest score amongst your friends, which is fulfilling in that perspective only. Objectivity-wise, the game only offers different characters and dragons you are to unlock else the game doesn't offer much. The boss challenges are also good but very difficult to achieve if you can't find a friend who is in it to defeat it. One annoying issue I always encountered in this game is whatever platform you play it with, there will always be a time where the game lags thereby sometimes damaging your progress or score in the process. I liked the game upon playing at start but eventually got tired of it as there is nothing new to anticipate it with.

JR's Movie Reviews - WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES

No comments:

War for the Planet of the Apes
WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES
JR's Rating:  (10 out of 10Masterpiece)
"All Hail Caesar! Morality At Its Finest"

POSITIVES
➕ Caesar
➕ Biblical and Historical References
➕ The Escape
➕ Recap Introduction
➕ "Food And Water"
➕ Cherry Blossom Scene
NEGATIVES

War for the Planet of the Apes is a fitting end to the glorious story of Caesar. With astounding effects, symbolic scenes and a memorable story, War for the Planet of the Apes is probably the best out of the different films the franchise has ever spawned in cinema. War for the Planet of the Apes, the third in the Planet of the Apes reboot, brings us to a symbolic war of humans versus apes at the brink of the possible extinction of one specie. Caesar fights to avenge his smart ape specie and the death of his wife and son. The introduction gave us a poetic glimpse of what the prequels were about. I already felt those goosebumps by that beginning alone. The movie is really symbolic reflecting man's colonial efforts towards a minority. The film effectively uses historical references especially with those that transpired in the two World Wars - the Colonel clearly a representation of an Egyptian or Hitler-like army. I also like the biblical referencing Moses ending which started with the escape of enslaved apes, it was truly a heartbreaking one; one of the best endings I seen in movie. The death of Caesar in itself is tragic but open doors on what would be next for the franchise. Two scenes in the movie in particular are memorable, the ones involving the child specifically where she was under a cherry blossom and the other when she gave food and water to a suffering Caesar. The movie has many morality issues that are presented symbolically and masterfully. Consistent from beginning to the end, I just can't control those goosebumps I felt. A true achievement this year, War for the Planet of the Apes is, alongside Wonder Woman, one of the best films this year in the US blockbuster summer movie season. A fitting way to almost end the summer movie season as well as a 2018 Oscar Contender.

JR's Movie Reviews - SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING

No comments:

Spider-Man: Homecoming
SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING
JR's Rating: 8️⃣ (8.9 out of 10Awesome)
"Spider-Man Reboot Done Amazingly"

POSITIVES
➕ Tom Holland
➕ Iron Man
➕ Aunt May (WTF? Ending)
➕ The Vulture Villain
➕ Staten Ferry Sequence
NEGATIVES
➖ Captain America Post-Credits
➖ Weak Marvel Cinematic Universe Entry

This time around it's done amazingly. Though with less action to Iron Man and Captain America movies, the cute and comedic take on Spider-Man makes it a unique treat in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Spider-Man: Homecoming takes us to a high school Peter Parker who just recently fought alongside Iron Man in the Civil War of Superheroes. Back in New York, Spider-Man proves himself to Iron Man by defeating a powerful Vulture to rightfully earn his spot as an Avenger. Much to my dismay of Spider-Man's first reboot, this second reboot is done masterfully after a good partnership between Disney's Marvel Studios and Sony to mutually share their superhero properties. In comparison to the first two versions of Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Homecoming gets an absent Uncle Ben, no real origin story (where Peter Parker gets bitten by a spider), a younger and hotter Aunt May and of course, the presence of other Marvel superheroes. With Captain America and Iron Man's presence, Spider-Man gets a huge boost from the two most recent dumb ones. Tom Holland's acting for me is so much better than his predecessors (Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire), probably due to how he presented Spider-Man in a different way, in a more youthful, awkward, true to his age Peter Parker. The Vulture villain brings in too many action sequences like the Staten Ferry castastrophe and the ending fight between him and Spider-Man in the Avengers plane. I personally love the scene where Spidey gets trapped in the DODC Facility after a failed attempt to capture the Vulture. I feel though that Spider-Man: Homecoming has still a long way to match the thrill and excitement that are Iron Man and Captain America; which both have more intense action sequences and much more ambitious villains. Still, Spider-Man's new outing is a worthy addition to the MCU and a lot better than Webb's Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield. By the way, I just can't forget how Aunt May is so damn hot this time around and I can't forget that very disappointing post-credit scene involving Captain America.

JR's Movie Reviews - TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT

No comments:

Transformers: The Last Knight
TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT
JR's Rating: 8️⃣ (5.0 out of 10Mediocre)
"Bad Idea to Harness the Earth's Geothermal Energy"

POSITIVES
➕ The Transformers
➕ Bumblebee's Voice
➕ Quintessa & The Knight Autobots
NEGATIVES
➖ Inconsistent Aspect Ratios
➖ Forced Emotions & Symbolisms
➖ Too Many Explosions

Forced emotions, forced symbolisms and yeah, forced explosions... a few of what I felt with Transformers: The Last Knight. Transformers: The Last Knight brings us yet again to Optimus Prime becoming Nemesis Prime who is obligated by Quintessa to go back to earth and retrieve Merlin's staff which is the key to bringing life back to a devastated Cybertron. Merlin's staff will harness all of earth's life force to Cybertron to bring back life to their planet but thereby losing all forms of life on our planet. The movie gives us an astonishing human-like presentation of Transformers yet again with the likes of Hound, Hot Rod and the new Squad of Decepticons. The Knight Autobots and even Quintessa are really impressive additions. Bumblebee remains the crowd favorite being the life of this movie. Unfortunately, for me, with forced elements and inconsistent frame aspects, the 2 hours and 40 minutes time of this movie was a grueling one making me want to leave early on. The different aspect ratios used was not really a good choice by the director. Remember those ratios you use to crop your photos on Instagram or your iPhone, this movie used several of them (in application to the film of course). It made me really irritated while understanding the different scenes involved. Symbolisms were also really bad, as the director seems that, we, the average movie viewer won't understand specific details like etching Punish to an already established "Police" transformer and placing Bowling Pins near a building named as a "Bowling Alley". I can't even feel the emotions of the characters as their acting seems forced and really hard to get. And as usual, the famous Michael Bay-explosions, there are too much of these in the film that they seem inappropriate and inconsistent already with some scenes. Don't get me wrong though, I still loved this movie for the Transformers used but several elements doesn't really work that well in the movie. Another mediocre film yet again this 2017.
