"Long Live The King, The King Of The Monsters"

Note: I highly suggest you don't read my review if you haven't yet watched the movie.
SPOILERS AHEAD! 🚩

The sheer gigantic beast that is unlike no other, Godzilla is the epitome of destruction, predation and dominance. It doesn't know any ally but it maintains itself as the only king every man and monster should bow to. Man initially viewed him as a threat that man even wanted to kill him for good. But a monster that feeds on nuclear energy can't be defeated with the same weapons that man rely on for destruction. Many years later, another alpha predator makes its presence known. Godzilla rises back from hibernation to fight this MUTO (massive unidentified terrestrial organism) to eventually maintain balance and prove that he is indeed the King of the Monsters.

Godzilla, for me, seems like a symbolism of man's undying desire for destruction and dominance. It's a reference to the many wars and disasters we keep on flourishing to eventually maintain that peace and order. It feeds on nuclear radiation same as how we rely on it to win global conflicts. How we view Godzilla, as an inspiration or a threat, is up to us to distinguish because in the end man has always been the only alpha predator and alpha preserver.

Godzilla reincarnates the godlike beast for the modern-day cinema goer. It's humongous with a unique roar equally terrifying. The CGI to make everything go into motion is truly impressive. On another note, it doesn't fail on equally creating an empathetic family story to complement Godzilla's story. I enjoyed watching this film and it's the reason why I am looking forward to the upcoming movies in this MonsterVerse.

Here are some noteworthy points I had on watching "Godzilla (2014)":

➕ Godzilla's Appearance
- Godzilla looks like the prehistoric animals that came to live in this world we are in. It appears to take in several unique characteristics of dinosaurs even those presumably imaginary dragons. When he flares up those spikes and plates at his back, the beast looks definitely a beauty. The amount of details and effects is already impressive.

➕ Godzilla's Size
- The size of this Godzilla surpasses those Godzilla's of the past. At 350 feet (slightly more than 100 meters), Godzilla's size alone might make your jaw drop. It's almost the same height as those buildings we see in the metro. Watch out for the airport scene when Godzilla steps foot at Hawaii, his feet are just massive. We are just but ants to him.

➕ Godzilla's Sound
- The sound of Godzilla alone is already dominating. As per interview with its sound editors, its roar expresses the creature's fury and soul. You'll definitely be astounded the very first time Godzilla roars on screen.

➕ Godzilla's Atomic Heat Beam
- Utilizing the impressive magic of visual effects, Godzilla's iconic Atomic Heat Beam is one to look forward to in this film. Brace yourselves as Godzilla flares up his back building up all energy to blast an intense blue flame blast towards his enemy. Just wow!

➕ MUTO
- MUTO is Godzilla's enemy in this film. MUTO stands for "massive unidentified terrestrial organism." It feeds on nuclear waste for survival so it is on track to finding one wherever it's present in this world. It might look like a weak foe compared to Godzilla but they are two he is fighting. One is flying (male) another is unable to but gigantic (female). It looks like a large mosquito to me but their appearance is definitely terrifying. What's more terrifying is that this mother MUTO is pregnant ready to breed for more MUTOs.

➕ Opening Credits & Philippines Shoutout
- I enjoyed watching the opening credits as it builds the tension of what's to come in this film. It also fits as a background to everything about Godzilla while referencing famous scientific principles and historical events to further engage us. Filipino fans are in for a treat as the movie starts in the our beloved Philippines.

➕ Familial Empathy
- What I also liked in this film is how it built a story of family as the catastrophe later on is building. You can relate to the family's story of loss and distance which actually becomes the motivation of the lead to fight against the enemy. The lead eventually protects his love ones from future proliferation of such threat. This movie did good on character story and development (unlike its 2019 follow-up).

➕ Seeing Godzilla For First Time
- I watched in anticipation as Godzilla swims underneath the USS Saratoga as it goes to Hawaii to fight against MUTO. I never seen any Godzilla movies of the past before I saw this film and just by seeing him alone wanted me to know more about him and eventually watch anything that has him. He's a monster I might actually idolize and you might too if you watch this film.

➕ San Francisco Battlezone
- The last stand between Godzilla and the MUTOs happens in San Francisco. Before even entering San Francisco, Godzilla wrecks havoc at the iconic Golden Gate Bridge brewing the chaos to ensue. Once they are face to face, Godzilla and the two MUTOs gave us an intense fight of titans where destruction is sure bound to happen. Godzilla beats them individually when they get separated. The first one he kills easily while the second one was an impressive show of Godzilla's Atomic Heat Beam.

➕ King of the Monsters?
- As Godzilla leaves San Francisco back to the sea, the headline "King of the Monsters?" spruces on news. That raises its viewers for discussion whether he is a threat or a partner of man. I can't help but discuss such with friends and even family who watched the film. All is clear though for me that Godzilla is one of the most powerful creatures I saw in film and probably any form of entertainment property.

With 10 positive points and no negative points,
"Godzilla (2014)" is a 9.2/10 for me.
