"An Exuberance of Treachery and Jealousy"

No other historical and biographical and comedy film comes close to this film right here. It's one of the most absurd yet unique pieces of cinematic comedies in recent memory. We go back to 18th Century Britain when the country is at war with France. The country then is being led by an uncapable and irresponsible Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) who have frequent mood swings and the inarguable urge for food and sex. While the Queen struggles to balance emotions and leadership, her two aides, Sarah (Rachel Weisz) and Abigail (Emma Stone), fight over to be "that favourite" of the queen, a possible successor to her no heir apparent reign. We engage in their love and hate escapades making us feel dumbfounded by the time the credits roll. With amazing costume and production design, "The Favourite" stands out as one of the most exudingly elaborate I have seen. It's extravagant yet beautiful. I got even hooked to Vivaldi after watching this movie. This is the kind of comedy I like and revere, not much slapstick but more on the dark and satire.

🚩🚩🚩SPOILERS AHEAD 🚩🚩🚩

Here are some important points I had on watching "The Favourite":

✅ Olivia Colman
- Olivia Colman's portrayal of Queen Anne is definitely Best Actress worthy. You can just imagine the difficulty of transitioning from being a crybaby to a ruthless leader the next. The queen is unexpected and brings that color in this film. She's funny and I love her.

✅ Emma Stone
- Who would have thought that an American actress can portray a British character so wonderfully. Emma Stone portrays the servant Abigail who gets thrown through mud before eventually earning her rank inside the palace. You know she is evil but you just have to love her too.

✅ Rachel Weisz
- Balancing the Queen's unbecoming antics, Sarah, portrayed by Rachel Weisz, brings the seriousness to the royal way of living. Her suggestions to the Queen are at times questionable but you know she's smart. She's the initial heir apparent considering she's being relied by the Queen on budget and military intelligence. Tragedy would ensue, however, when Sarah comes into the mix discovering she's just not an advisor but also a sexual partner to the Queen.

✅ "Look At Me"
✅ Extravagant Lifestyle
✅ Antonio Vivaldi
✅ Lesbian Sex
✅ Fish-Eyes
✅ Costume Design
✅ The Castle
✅ Dedication to its Time Period
✅ Corruption and Gluttony

With 12 amazing reasons to watch and no reasons not to watch,
"The Favourite" is a 10/10 for me.
