"Epic In The Grandest Proportions"

A rare moment like this is an achievement in cinema. When everyone just have to see and cheer their favorite avenger for what is probably the final time, “Avengers: Endgame” just has to be celebrated. Box office and hype aside, “Avengers: Endgame” utilizes CGI at its finest while also creating its own unique story and identity based from the iconic Infinity Gauntlet saga. “Avengers: Endgame” is the best the Marvel Cinematic Universe has to offer. With such ambitious scale, my worry though is with the lack of the six iconic heroes on their future flicks, such feat by “Avengers: Endgame” might be hard to follow and even replicated. It is an experience you should not let go until it is still screening at your local cinema. You just have to be crazed to be part of the Endgame journey.

It’s been 10 years since we first saw Nick Fury initiate the Avenger Initiative through Iron Man. Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Hulk would be the first of the many that would be now known as the “Avenger.” They crossed paths with numerous villains and superheroes in an attempt to collect, hide, and protect the six Infinity Stones from being used for evil intent. Then came the mad titan Thanos creating his own version of saving the universe by snapping out half of all living creatures during the Infinity War. Now, the first six Avengers, filled with vengeance from devastation and trauma, make retribution to the fallen through the help of those who survived the snap by exploring the idea of time travel whilst reminiscing their past. Everything comes in full circle as they have that shot at the 1/14,000,605 chance to win not without a few sacrifices along the way. What an amazing way to give closure to the story arcs we have followed for years. Going to the past is also a trip to memory lane.

🚩🚩🚩SPOILERS AHEAD 🚩🚩🚩

Here are some noteworthy points I had on watching "Avengers: Endgame":

➕ Iron Man / Robert Downey, Jr.
- Ah, the reason why I have been hooked with the Marvelverse from its onset. He is my favorite Avenger and the very reason why I’m a fan in the first place. This genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist inspired me with that confidence and wit which you can’t really find amongst any other superhero. The man who plays himself also has that inspirational tale of transformation that is worthy of admiration; I can’t imagine anyone else who would be Iron Man. I always remember the time when my dad and I would watch the Iron Man movies at the local cinema because why the hell not, the Iron Man and Robert Downey Jr. team-up is that damn amazing. How they treated the character for the last time is truly heroic fitting for the man who would define what it truly means to be an avenger. I’ll have to guess many of you cried when he bids goodbye. His snap to decimate Thanos’s minions is a slap to his snap five years back.

➕ Captain America / Chris Evans
- He is the representation of America’s badass. Kidding aside, like Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man, I can’t also think of anyone else who would best play Cap. He may have that body (and ass) but he exemplified that leader who knows how and when to fight. His seriousness at times prove to be a difficult foe to Iron Man’s comedic yet witty nature. Before “Avengers: Endgame”, my best MCU movie was “Captain America: Civil War” as not just it introduced a well-orchestrated war but it gave insight on how Captain America thinks. I hoped for more from Cap but I guess it’s enough for me that he got to spend part of his life for the one he truly loves. He deserves a love story too.

➕ Black Widow / Scarlett Johansson
- You just know from the moment Hawkeye and Black Widow were left to traverse planet Vormir that one has to sacrifice their life to summon themselves the Soul Stone. I already felt at that moment that Black Widow would be that one considering the start of the movie would present Hawkeye with his family, a reason for him to just be alive. That moment caught tears as I reminisced the times when Black Widow may not have those superpowers but she always has the continuous will to fight for the good. She’s the female Avenger I hoped have fought until the end but I guess being named as the bravest one is enough. I just hope she has that prequel treatment.

➕ Thor and the Hulk and Hawkeye
- While the aforementioned three are noteworthy, attention should also be given to the other three original. It’s presumed that Endgame brings closure to their stories as well. I’m not that sure though with Thor but it seems the first three phases are dedicated for the first generation of Marvel Avengers and the following would be for the newly introduced ones. They each have their own story to tell that you just have to see in Endgame.

➕ The Mad Titan Thanos / Josh Brolin
- We also have to give it up for Josh Brolin for playing MCU’s baddest and maddest titan, Thanos, the villain we just love to hate. His success in Infinity War may be short-lived (and he also gets killed in the movie’s beginning) but the past version of himself proves a challenge again as he summons multitudes of minions ready to make fruition a new plan, to erase and start reality anew.

➕ Time Travel
- There were too many time travel references, most notably from “Back To The Future” which I too highly suggest for viewing. But Iron Man suggests a different idea that an alteration of the past won’t change the future but rather their presence in the past would already be their present. The Infinity Gauntlet comics give a different take on the Infinity War as well as the animated series. The movie’s take is something to look out for. Every trip back to the past is a throwback to MCU movies of yesteryear, with the first Avengers movie being the most nostalgic.

➕ The Return of the Fallen
- Spoiler, and I guess everybody knows this already, but Black Panther, Spiderman, the Guardians of the Galaxy and many more returned after being snapped back. How they were showed to return was iconic. While Thanos’s army was already great in number, Black Panther with his Wakanda multitude and the other Marvel superheroes would appear by surprise to help the other Avengers outlast their ultimate enemy.

➕ Closure of Story Arcs
- Iron Man snaps Thanos, Captain America lives life with Peggy, Thor gives the reign of Asgard to Valkyrie whilst also joining the Guardians, Black Widow sacrifices herself, Hawkeye reunites with this family and Hulk manages to balance his angry and smart sides. All are but fitting closures to the story arcs we had been following with them through the years. Each have their context of saying goodbye properly and honourably. You'll miss them 3000 times after watching Endgame.

➕ I Love You 3000
- I just have to say, this movie introduced too many a quotes that will now be part of today’s and even the future’s lexicon. “I Love You 3000”, “Part of the journey is the end”, “That America’s ass” are but a few. “Avengers, assemble” and “I am Iron Man” are references to the past films. You also have to just prepare your emotions while Iron Man delivers an initial goodbye at the beginning whilst also delivering his true goodbye at the end. Those monologues are tearjerkers just waiting to be served. “I’ll dream about you, because it’s always you.” Else, the dialogue is well penned in this movie. Subtle jokes aren't that subtle when you realize it's context and meaning.

➕ Rare Hype In Cinema
- These rare occurrence of hype in film are worthy of celebration. I have to share my experience watching at the cinema. I’m not really bothered when people express their excitement over some scenes because as a Marvel fan that excitement can’t really be contained especially that the experience was defined to be that. People shared that thrill every time surprises come but the same people would shrill in silence when both Black Widow and Iron Man bid their farewell. As the credits roll especially when the first generation Avengers were given a tribute, applause is but certain to be given.

With 10 positive points and no negative points,
"Avengers: Endgame" is a perfect 10/10 for me.
