"As High As Honor"

"When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die"
- Cersei Lannister to Ned Stark

When you are a king ruling seven kingdoms that are home to several houses, the fight for the throne is always at play to whoever wants it especially when the lineage has been meddled and changed. An infuriated Targaryen siblings are on a quest to reclaim what was supposed to be theirs after being left as the two living members of their house. A patriarch Stark has to deal with the planned overtaking by the Lannister's for the Iron Throne with risk of death or defeat for his own house. The game is as good as it gets as we first get an understanding how one throne can ultimately be the cause of wars, how one throne can cause the further hatred of one house to another. The fight for power whilst being pleasured by whores, wine and non-stop killing is just but the concept of the Game of Thrones as the first season gives us the tone for what is in store.

🚩🚩🚩SPOILERS AHEAD 🚩🚩🚩

Here are 5 of my most memorable moments and 3 of the most standout
from the first season of Game of Thrones:

✅ Winter Is Coming
- The first episode brings us to the entire Stark family which we come to understand and even love as we progress through each season of the series. Bran, Arya, Sansa and even Jon Snow are still very young having too much to learn in the art of war while their father is called to the dangerous life of the "Hand."

✅ Braavosi and Arya
- After being given a sword by Jon Snow, Arya aspires to handle it with skill and finesse having even named the sword "Needle." With his father seeing this, he would introduce her to the skilled fencer Braavosi, who would teach her the art of the sword and the skill of focus. "There is only one thing we say to death, not today," says Braavosi to Arya.

✅ Khaleesi
- I felt enraged when Viserys offered his sister as a supposed sex offering to the Khal Drogo in exchange for a promised army as he claim the Iron Throne. Daenerys suffered too much despite her story arc just beginning. Eventual satisfaction is to be felt when his brother was smothered with melted gold after a long wait of him being killed. Later on, she would also hatch her own dragons as she would supposedly burn herself along with the eggs, an experience that only true dragon blood can withstand. If those aren't retribution for Daenerys's sufferings, then more is yet to come for the then Khaleesi and eventual Queen Daenerys of House Targaryen.

✅ Ned Stark's Death
- Nothing beats the treachery of the Lannisters for the sake of winning the throne. Spurting out how the game of thrones is to be played after being confronted by Eddard about his incestous discovery, Cersei pushes forth the ascension of her son as the new king when her dying husband wanted Ned to take control of it first. The hurt is there when we followed a virtuous man such as Eddard Stark be beheaded in what was a gamechanger through the next events that would follow in the series when the true game of thrones would eventually start. The death remains one of the most dramatic.

✅ The Eyrie
- The Eyrie is by all literal means very high but a beauty. We first have a glimpse of it when Lady Stark brings Tyrion to her sister in hopes of a trial for Lysa's husband's murder and the attempted murder of her son. Despite being led by a psychotic Lysa and her breastfeeding son, the Eyrie is itself a wonder. How scary it was when Tyrion was placed in one of their sky cells. I did felt awe while also feeling claustrophobic and vertigo.

➕Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister)
- Smart and witty are just two of how I can describe the character Tyrion being played by Peter Dinklage. As small as he is, he has that dashing vibe to get any woman and thing he wants living day and day full of pleasure, specifically alcohol and sex. A Lannister always pays their debt they say but little as he is maybe a Lannister always get what they want. There's a reason why Peter has been throughout the entire Game of Thrones series, he's that amazingly good.

➕Sean Bean (Eddard Stark)
- It's just one season but the character of Eddard Stark is lovable due to his just and virtuous nature. When everybody is busy playing the game of thrones, Ned is busy enlightening his friend, the King Robert, on what needs to be done for the betterment of the realm. How I wished to have seen him more but dying honorably is enough than even being involved in the greedy war for the throne.

➕Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen)
- We can't just hate a woman who suffered too much even at the hands of the brother who was supposed to protect her. She was forced for marriage towards a very harsh and violent Dothraki leader, Khal Drogo. This might be a bitter start but retribution is all deserved by the Khaleesi, future Queen Daenerys of House Targaryen. We would sympathize with her and eventually root for her despite some questionable decisions maybe. She would earn the titles The Unburnt, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Mother of Dragons and Breaker of Chains all as she pursue the Iron Throne because hell, she deserves to be. The beginning is just suffering but further seasons would suggest how her rise is just but awe astounding. I can't imagine anyone righteously playing Daenerys other than the powerful Queen Emilia Clarke herself.

Given the chance to rate this season of Game of Thrones,
I'll give it an impressive 9.8/10.
