PLOT
"Revolves around a monster attack in New York as told from the point of view of a small group of people"
Cloverfield follows five New Yorkers from the perspective of a hand-held video camera. The movie is exactly the length of a DV Tape and a sub-plot is established by showing bits and pieces of video previously recorded on the tape that is being recorded over. The movie starts as a monster of unknown origin destroys a building. As they go to investigate, parts of the building and the head of the Statue of Liberty come raining down. The movie follows their adventure trying to escape and save a friend, a love interest of the main character. (Written by: Pip Carlson)
MAIN ACTORS

1. MIKE VOGEL (as Jason Hawkins)

2. LIZZY CAPLAIN (as Marlena Diamond)
TRIVIAS
1)  The first trailer for this movie played before Transformers (2007). It showed a giant explosion in the heart of New York City and the Statue of Liberty's head being thrown down a street. It was shot with a hand-held video recorder. There was no title.
2)  The film was shot in 34 days, in Los Angeles under the fake title "Slusho" and in New York under the fake title "Cheese". The Ferris wheel scene, the last in sequential order, was filmed on the first day. The scene inside Beth's parents' apartment, the first in sequential order, was filmed on the last day.
3) The title "Cloverfield"; initially just a codename for the movie, is named for the boulevard in Santa Monica where the Bad Robot offices were located during the making of the film.
4) The movie is viewed primarily from the point of view of Hud, the character who uses the camera the most. H.U.D. is short for Heads-Up Display, a method for overlaying information onto a view of one's surroundings such as Timestamps on video footage.
5) During the first weekend of the release, many theaters posted signs warning guests that the hand held camera movements may cause motion sickness.
6) The decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty in the street is inspired by the poster for John Carpenter's Escape from New York (1981), which depicts the head of the Statue of Liberty lying in the middle of the street.
7) The opening party scenes were filmed without music, and the guests in the background were silently pretending to talk to one another. All the music was added in post-production.
8) The film begins on April 27 and ends on May 23 at the exact same time: 6.42 AM.
9) The rats used in the tunnel scene were specially-trained and colored with a dark, charcoal-like substance to give them the appearance of wild, dirty tunnel rats. The rats in the final shot were completely computer-generated.
10) All the main characters (and Jamie) have MySpace pages. The producers made these pages to advertise on MySpace. All the characters last logged into them on January 18, 2008. (1-18-08), the release date of the film.
GOOFS
1) Revealing Mistakes: When the actors are on the slanted roof, their clothes seem to defy gravity.
2) Plot Holes: It would be impossible for any consumer camcorder to survive a 300 foot drop from the monster's mouth.
3) Factual Errors: When Rob, Lily and Hud are coming to get Beth, the floor they go into on the standing tower is marked "57". This is incorrect, since, in fact, Time Warner Center only has 55 stories.
4) Crew or Equipment Visible: When Hud is running down the stairs to the subway, he turns around and sees a huge explosion just overhead. It causes him to fall down the rest of the stairs. As he falls, for a quick second, you can see the shadow of a cameraman lugging a huge over-the-shoulder camcorder, not the one-handed camcorder Hud is supposed to be using.
5) Revealing Mistakes: As the Statue of Liberty's head strikes the high rise, there is a large and fiery explosion. The statue itself is composed of iron and copper, and the head is hollow, yet the impact causes an explosion akin to that of artillery fire.
6) Revealing Mistakes: When the group makes their escape into a small room in the subway, a partially-eaten meal on a table contains some bottles of Mountain Dew. The bottles have labels advertising a contest for the film "Transformers" which took place in the summer of 2007, when the scenes were filmed. The events of the film are said to take place in May of 2008.
MEMORABLE QUOTES
1) Marlena Diamond: It's eating people.
2) Hud: Rob, it is time to leave the electronic store.
3) Rob Hawkins: Look at me! Look at me! Look at me. I love you!
Beth McIntyre: I love you!
4) Hud: I'm documenting.
5) Hud: Okay, just to be clear here, our options are: die here, die in the tunnels, or die in the streets. That pretty much it?
Rob Hawkins: Yeah... that's pretty much it.
