"Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken"

"Kill the boy and let the man be born."
- Maester Aemon to Jon Snow

Foreshadowing is the key to set forth the many events that will take place in the powerful nation of Westeros. The start foreshadows the grim that is yet to happen to Cersei, her children and an ominous overthrow of her reign as queen as well. That begs the idea of an eventual downfall of house Lannister. At the moment though, while we might probably have a new, more prosperous king, in the form of King Tommen, there are many threats still looming under the king's direction. The army of the dead, Daenerys, Stannis, the Boltons and the newly minted Sparrows are still to be dealt with in the not so much prosperous nation. Peace and alliances are to be made but more and more enemies are bound consequently. You can't just feel confident and calm when defeat is a snap away.

To defeat the army of the dead, Jon Snow assembles truce between the wildlings and crows but ends up being killed treacherously as a traitor to his cause. To claim the North, the Boltons have ransacked Winterfell and is fixing marriage between the bastard Ramsay and Sansa but the former escapes just as the Boltons won war against Stannis who came short of furthering his claim as king. To set her path to Westeros, Queen Daenerys is just but starting her reign in Meereen but is contested with having her ideals and principles on the way of tradition and politics in the nation of her people. To punish sin and spread the true message of faith, the Sparrows are slowly becoming a force to be reckoned with as, despite the power that are the Tyrells and Cersei, they managed to implore correction and atonement. This season is about personal agendas and scores to be settled in what seems to be the start of the war against the dead and also the war towards the throne.

🚩🚩🚩SPOILERS AHEAD 🚩🚩🚩

Here are 5 of my most memorable moments and 3 of the most standout
from the fifth season of Game of Thrones:

I have to say most of my memorable moments came from the last three episodes of this particular season.

✅ Walk of Atonement
- I learned that this scene was masterfully done through CGI but that's not why I liked the scene so much. The immersive experience of a well choreographed walk of shame from the Sept of Baelor to the Red Keep seems a satisfying punishment for the character we love to hate. After availing of the so-called "Mother's Mercy" to vouch for her incest with her cousin Lancel, she was forced to walk naked across the populated streets of King's Landing while being shamed. Cersei endured wounded feet with couple of taunts and throws by the common men. It's Cersei at her most vulnerable but would soon be the basis for her rage and vengeance towards her enemies.

✅ The Massacre at Hardhome
- While an alliance between the wildlings and crows was formed in preparation for the long night ahead, they would be ambushed by the same enemy they have been fearing for so long. We get a glimpse of the army of the dead, how they are raised plus how they fight. Jon Snow and everyone at Hardhome are caught off guard by how undefeatable they are. While many wildlings were spared, many succumbed to the further accumulating army of the dead. It's well orchestrated and one of the best battle sequences in Game of Thrones.

✅ Sacrifice of Shireen
- In hopes of prosperity for what seems to be a losing cause for Stannis, he had yielded to sacrificing his own daughter for the sake of his personal angst toward the throne. He would have his daughter be consumed in flames to please the Lord of Light. All we can do is anguish and feel the pain as we hear the screams of Shireen while she is burned alive. The saddest part is it would prove useless as Stannis would eventually lose the war against the Boltons.

✅ The Great Pit of Meereen
- It's the tradition that Daenerys loathe but soon learns to accept if she were to lead an overly traditional and conservative Meereen. Seated beside her beau, Daenerys had to watch the first set of fighting in disgust. Later on, as a former confidant, Jorah, battles, Daenerys sat in a more obvious terror but also concern. Jorah would prove to be successful at the time but the sons of the Harpy were to uprise against the queen. While Jorah seems to strike at Queen Daenerys, it was directed towards an assassin slowly going towards her. Chaos would ensue all over the fighting pit but thank the old gods and new for a surprise return of Drogo who would save the day. It's also the first time we see Dany ride one of her dragons, that filled me with awe.

✅ Braavos
- The Iron Bank of Braavos has already shown its majestic appearance the past season when Stannis and Ser Davos appealed for money in their war. This time, the city gets a more adequate screen time. Arya Stark rides far to Braavos in hopes of enhancing her art as he go against her enemies in Westeros. She is brought to the Faceless Man, we originally knew as Jaqen from Harrenhal, to learn the art of impersonation and lying. She would be impatient though as she would deviate towards her learning to pursue one of her dream kills she would see in Braavos. The question is how she would deal the consequences of her actions at the following season.

➕Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister)
- Seeing Cersei at her vulnerable when we know her for being strong and wrathful is probably her peak amongst the entire series. It's the turning point towards her being more vengeful and divisive. Imagine fueling your hatred towards an allied house causing their demise which would eventually lead you to suffer the same demise because the same people you placed into power turn heads against you for your own sins. That's just what Cersei had to suffer especially when she would do the walk of atonement along the damned streets of King's Landing. While it wasn't her body, Lena done great on imploring the emotions for the affair. Her shortening of hair is already symbolic for a changed, stronger and more wrathful, Cersei.

➕Stephen Dillane (Stannis Baratheon)
- Unfazed at any form of weakness and compassion, Stannis is one of those strongmen in the entire of Westeros. Despite losing the battle at Blackwater Bay, he is much stronger than ever. After taking temporary hold of Castle Black, he is already filled with hopes to further his claim towards the throne. While his side is almost ready for war, he would come unprepared by the strong winter during his conquest towards south. Despite being advised to take patience and equip his army, Stannis is but desperate to just "move forward." The sacrificial death of his daughter even left him without emotion towards his claim. At the hands of defeat and death, Stannis remains straight faced and unafraid.

➕Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont)
- We know him as the adviser towards Khaleesi as she pursue her birthright in Westeros. He started as a whisperer to King's Landing now a loyal servant to Queen Daenerys. While he would be left astray due to deceit, he would prove his further love and dedication to Queen Daenerys by bringing Tyrion to her and also continuing fighting for her glory. He might be pushed away many times but Jorah's devotion towards Queen Daenerys is awe-inspiring and worth replication. It is worth noting that in a very treacherous Game of Thrones, he remains just towards what he believes in.

Given the chance to rate this season of Game of Thrones,
I'll give it an outstanding 10/10.
